It is a city that looks like a fairy-tale making it the perfect destination for your Munich hen weekend. With a compact city centre with interesting suburbs that are all well connected with public transport makes getting around easy even after a drink or two.
Munich is probably one of the most impressive cities in Germany. Although most of its historical buildings were destroyed during the Second World War, the city has restored most of its landmarks over the decades after experiencing what’s known as the “economic miracle”. Even today, it still remains to be one of the top fastest-growing cities in the country. The city served as the capital of independent Bavaria for many centuries, and a great way to explore this city’s unique and rich history would be at the Bavarian National Museum, one of the largest art museums in the country.
If you’re wanting a celebration, then you’re in the right place as the Germans know how to party and it lasts all night! Whether you start drinking early with the locals in a beer garden or come alive when it goes dark you’ll fit right in. There are so many things to do in this magical city from beer crawls to a day round the shops, you’re bound to find something you’ll love. Even if you’re looking to just relax on your stay you could visit one of the beautiful spas or check out a museum or two, or just have a wonder through the cobbled streets.

Places to Eat in Munich?
In Munich, you and the girls will get to experience the best of both German and local Bavarian cuisine. Aside from the tourist favourites like pretzels and currywurst, you girls should take some time in between all of your Munich activities to try as much as you can.
To start off with, you could try the ‘dish for filling the gap between meals’ which is simply sausage and bagels, and one place we would recommend picking up this tasty treat would be at the Hofbrauhaus. A beer hall spread out over three floors and dating all the way back to the 16th century, this restaurant is located on the Platzl and is one of the most well-known venues in Munich. As well as being the most famous brewery in the World, this traditional Bavarian beer hall hosts live music, serves up fantastic food and the best German beers every day of the year, so this is a place you don’t want to miss regardless of what your itinerary is or what time of the year you visit!
One place you and the girls should consider trying before anywhere else in the city is the Ratskeller München restaurant. Situated beneath the town hall in a beautiful 19th century cellar, this extremely popular hotspot is situated right in the heart of the city and has a fantastic range of vegetarian and vegan options, this reasonably-priced restaurant is the perfect place to have your big party meal no matter how you’re celebrating.
If you’re looking for more exotic cuisine, then take the girls for a mouth-watering meal at Restaurant Savanna Munich. This South African-themed eatery is a hit with both the locals and visitors because of its warm and friendly atmosphere and authentic taste. Serving everything from crocodile to ostrich!
Where to Shop in Munich?
City Centre Arcades
If retail therapy is going to be needed during your visit, then you girls are in luck! Being a huge city of nearly 1.5 million people, Munich offers everything you could imagine and a lot more when it comes to shopping. We think that the best place to kick things off would be at the Fünf Höfe (or “Five Courtyards”) complex situated right in the heart of the city centre next to Marienhof. This elegant and well-stocked shopping area is packed full of big-name high street brands and boutiques, making it the perfect destination for girls looking to treat themselves before the big day!
For a completely unique experience, head over to Stachus Passagen. Famous for being Europe’s largest underground mall, this gigantic space (around 7,500 square metres in total) has a massive range of different retailers from high fashion boutiques to quirky independent stores and everything in between.
Glockenbachviertel
Commonly known amongst residents as “the prettiest neighbourhood in Munich”, the trendy and vibrant area that revolves around Gärtnerplatz is the cultural heart of this city, playing an important role as the centre of Munich’s gay and lesbian communities in the 1980s. Now, the neighbourhood is one of the most sought after areas in the city, packed full of beautiful cafes, bars, restaurants and, of course… shops! This would be the ideal place to head to for a spot of shopping before a meal with the girls or heading to the bars for a big night out.
The Tal
Probably the most iconic street in Munich, The Tal is the place to head to if you don’t mind the hustle and bustle, as it can get quite busy! This street is also the place to be if you’re looking for all things Bavarian! Whether it be lederhosen or stein glasses, you and the girls will definitely find the perfect memorabilia here to remind you of your Munich celebrations for years to come! Not only is it a great place to find props, but this street also has an abundance of high street stores, fashion retailers and food hotspots that are worth checking out in between all the browsing!
Olympia Shopping Centre
Of course, we couldn’t miss out this heaven for shopping! Situated next to the Olympic Village built for the 1972 games, this modern and stylish complex (known locally as the “OEZ”) features over a staggering 130 stores, restaurants, bars and cafes under an impressive glass ceiling, making this one of the most fabulous shopping experiences that you girls will ever have.
Guide to Munich Nightlife for Hen Weekends
Across the globe, Munich is known primarily for its annual Oktoberfest, arguably the world’s biggest and best beer festivals. So you would imagine that the city’s nightlife would be fantastic… and you would be correct! Known for being a hotbed of influences from around the world and particularly appealing to Germany’s younger crowd, you and the girls can expect the best of the best if you’re looking to have one last blow-out before the big day. There are a number of areas in this city that know how to throw a great party!
Münchner Freiheit
The first one that deserves to be mentioned is the Münchner Freiheit area, a public square in the northern neighbourhood of Schwabing. Literally meaning “Munich Freedom”, this area is the most popular destination for university students in the city. Two of the area’s biggest and best clubs are located on Leopoldstraße, being Mint Club München and Deluxe Munich. If you’re looking for a classic night out where you can party until the early hours, then these are two ideal venues to head to for you girls to finish off your night! Aside from these nightclubs, the area is most well-known for its stylish and eclectic bars. One of the most popular is Keg Bar, situated just off Leopoldstraße. This Irish sports bar is a favourite for locals, showing live sports from all over the world and serving up fantastic bar food with great beers to go with it. And with being open ‘til late every night of the week, there’s never a bad time to stop by at this bar for a drink or two on your way to the big clubs in the area.
Another fantastic bar worth visiting is Trumpf oder Kritisch. Located on Feilitzschstraße just a stones’ throw away from the Münchner Freiheit metro station, this late-night food and music venue is open every evening during the week where you and the girls could go for a pre-night out meal and a few German beers or cocktails before making your way around the other bars in the area. On the other hand, this is also a great place for a few chilled drinks too!
Situated next door and also on Wedekindplatz is Café Rennbahn, a small beer hall that feels more like a friendly neighbourhood local pub than anything else! This bar stays open until very late, so spending an entire evening at this venue sipping cocktails with the girls is always a good idea.
Kultfabrik
As a city known for its love for beer and partying, you and the girls are guaranteed to find a lively nightlife area of Munich that will be perfect for everyone. With so much choice available, it can be quite hard to figure out where to start! One place that we would recommend checking out before anywhere else is Kultfabrik, a large open space and industrial park that claims to be the biggest nightlife area in Europe! Situated in the Werksviertel-Mitte area (or Factory Quarter), this lively hotspot features over 20 bars and clubs. The area is made up of mostly independent businesses set up in former shipping containers, known as the “Container Collective” pop-up city.
One of the best in the area is the impressive MH5 Roof Bar. This bar sits high above the city of Munich, giving you unbelievable views of the city and the Bavarian Alps in the backdrop. This welcoming drinking spot is a hugely popular destination for locals and visitors, with plenty of open space, modern décor and even better drinks!
Situated next door is the Americanos Bar & Club, which is open until the very early hours of the morning each weekend. This stylish and modern bar has very reasonably priced drinks, a great atmosphere and even better music, making it everything you could possibly want from a late-night bar.
For exciting cocktails, the Gin City bar just a few doors down is the place to go for everything… you guessed it… gin! Not only is this a paradise for any gin-loving party, but this bar also stays open ‘til late, making it the perfect place to stay for a chilled night out drinking delicious cocktails with the girls or as a starting point before hitting the bigger venues. For a taste of Munich’s best beers, head next door to Kölschbar. With a warm and friendly atmosphere, hearty Bavarian food and great beers to wash it down with, visiting this bar is a fantastic idea if you girls need to line your stomachs before the night out.
Maximiliansplatz / Maximillian Square
For the biggest and best nightclubs that Munich has to offer, this is the area that you and the girls need to head to. With extremely lively bars and nightclubs that cater to all kinds of music taste, this is the top place to end up on your last night of freedom. Probably the most well-known club in the area is Pacha Munich. Operated by the group behind the world-renowned Ibiza nightclub, this vibrant venue stays open until the very early hours and features some of the best DJs from across Europe, making this the ultimate party destination for any group looking to celebrate big!
Also on the same block, you girls will find 089 Bar & Lounge. This is another exceptional venue that hosts amazing party nights throughout the week and staying open as late as the nightclubs that surround it like Sweet Club and Call me Drella. These two clubs are ideal for those searching for the super-club experience so you can dance until the sun comes up. For a heavier music experience, Rote Sonne is the place to go. This underground rave club hosts regular techno and house music nights with popular DJ’s from across Germany and the rest of Europe.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Munich Hen Party
With so much to see and do in Germany’s most prosperous and fastest-growing city, it can be hard to plan exactly what you’re going to do and how you’re going to spend your free time on your weekend in Munich. However, there are a few ways we think that you girls can make the most out of your visit. A great place to start would be to take a trip to Marienplatz. Situated in the heart of the city, this is Munich’s central public square and features iconic buildings like the Neues Rathaus (New City Hall) and St. Peter’s Church. If you want to find a good starting point for exploring the city, then this would be the best place.
Another great way to make the most out of your Munich trip depending on what time of year you visit would be to experience the famous Oktoberfest. Known across the globe as the biggest beer festival in the world, this huge celebration takes place from the end of September until the start of October in the Theresienweise area in the city centre, a huge open space dedicated to hosting this public festival. Even if you’re not a group of beer drinkers, this traditional Bavarian celebration is one that you simply can’t afford to miss.
How to Get Around Munich?
Like many other major German cities, Munich’s public transport system makes getting around the city as easy as possible. With a network of both above-ground and underground trains (Munich’s S-Bahn and U-Bahn) that covers the entire city and its suburbs, this is probably the most affordable and quickest way to navigate Munich.
Alternatively, you and the girls could make use of the city centre’s extensive bicycle lanes by hiring bikes during your visit. This is an increasingly popular method of transport in the city and is ideal for those who don’t mind taking on a bit of physical exercise in between all the boozing and celebrations.
